The main activity of the BCMH is the annual programme of two or three Conferences, usually held at a major UK academic, museum or armed forces venue. The BCMH also hosts and organises the highly successful ‘New Research in Military History’ conference for postgraduate and early career historians.
Additionally, as a branch of the International Commission for Military History the British Commission is invited to send two delegates to the annual Congress of Military History. As part of this event the ICMH sponsors a doctoral workshop for which the BCMH supports an applicant from amongst its members.
The BCMH organises a battlefield tour each year with speakers drawn from the membership and therefore offering very high value.
