Students of the Normandy Campaign may be interested in Dr Seb Ritchie's latest researches into Operation Goodwood. His lecture to the Royal Artillery Historical Society (RAHS) given on 28 April 2021 may be accessed on YouTube at this link  Dr Seb Ritchie – The Guns of Cagny 1944 – YouTube

Starting from research by the late Ian Daglish using the archive of air photographs at Keele (now at Edinburgh) Dr Ritchie described the local geography and environment and then used contemporary air photographs to locate the German battery firing points and their targets, dispelling many myths that have built up over the years over the actions of the British (Gen Pip Roberts) and German (Maj Hans von Luck) commanders. He also gave us an interesting insight into the limitations on the use of heavy bombers to support the operation.
