New Researchers

In 2010 the BCMH launched its first New Researchers’ Conference at the University of Sussex. At the time the event was held as part of the Commission’s Autumn Conference but it quickly became a standalone event. Apart from the 2020 lockdown it has been held every year since then though attendance at last year’s event at Sheffield was hindered by extreme weather and frequently extends over two days.  The 2024 Conference will be held at the University of Portsmouth on 19th/20th October British Commission for Military History » New Researcher’s conference call for Papers, University of Portsmouth, 19th – 20th October 2024 (bcmh.org.uk).

The Conferences have proven to be very popular amongst those wishing to explore with others topics that are the subject of their current studies. At an international level the BCMH supports applications from postgraduate students wishing to speak at the International Congress of Military History held annually.
