With the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion into Ukraine just past, this issue’s articles section begins with Mungo Melvin providing an analysis of the political and economic background as well as an overview over the present state of the conflict. Jon Matlack takes a closer look at United States military training exercises of the Cold War; the editor is particularly grateful to the author for having the opportunity to publish an article that at its very beginning has a former Wehrmacht officer, several inebriated NCOs of the French Régiment du Génie, and Elvis Presley entering a bar! A small piece by the editor on one of the most famous wargames ran by the German general staff before the First World War, Schlieffen’s 1905 Kriegsspiel, completes the articles section.
