A key site from one of history’s most famous military campaigns is facing uncertainty, and the risk of demolition, after being put up for sale.

The farm of Gemioncourt was fought over at the Battle of Quatre Bras, an important prequel to the more famous Battle of Waterloo.

Now Gemioncourt has been placed on the market for 2 million Euros, with the listing stating that the site has potential as, amongst other things, a ‘residential project’.

The news comes after another farmhouse on the battlefield, which was used as a field hospital during the battle, was recently bulldozed to make way for a block of flats.

An international group of leading Napoleonic experts have therefore come together to form Heritage 1815, an interest group that seeks to work with local and international stakeholders to identify a sustainable way of safeguarding the future of this historic site.
