It is not often that BCMH Members are mentioned in The Times (except in the Obituary column) so it was with particular pleasure that on 14th November I read a short piece about someone who is very much still with us. The piece reported that Halik Kochanski had won the 2023 Wolfson History Prize for her book Resistance, The Underground War in Europe 1939-1945. Fuller details are at the link below:

The Bookseller – News – Kochanski wins £50k Wolfson History Prize for ‘remarkable’ history of resistance in wartime Europe

The judges – and the competition – were hardly lightweights.

Those of us who had read The Eagle Unbowed, Poland and the Poles in the Second World War thought that was pretty comprehensive coverage clearly Halik relished an even greater challenge!

Many congratulations, Halik, from all of us in BCMH. A fantastic achievement – beyond mere words!

There are too many links to the event – I will leave readers to do their own googling…
