This seminar examines how the United States National Guard transformed in the wake of the decision to end the draft in 1973 moving forward into the Total Force Policy which essentially meant that the US could no longer go to war without the Guard. The focus is on the transformation of the US military in the wake of Vietnam especially as that impacted the Guard, and the consequences of that in the wars of the early 2000s which the US military is still trying to figure out today.
