Members of the BCMH will doubtless know of the Battle of Evesham 1265, which brought an end to the Second Barons War.  The site of this battle has been under threat of development and a key part of the protection of the site has been the Annual Evesham Battlefield Festival, held on the first weekend of August each year. Over a few years it has grown to become the leading early mediaeval festival in Europe, attracting crowds in their thousands.

Mick Hurst, founder and CEO of the Annual Evesham Battlefield Festival project, has been nominated for “Visit England’s” Tourism Superstar award by “Visit Worcestershire”. This is in recognition of the value the project has brought to the region and Mick hopes this exposure will attract further sponsorship to allow the Battle of Evesham project to keep going and growing. Winning would also raise the profile of protecting English battlefields. The Battle of Evesham Trust CIO mission states: To promote the preservation of the battlefield associated with the Battle of Evesham 1265 as a site of historic interest for the benefit of the public generally. To advance education relating to the Battle, battlefield and associated sites particularly in relation to its place in the development of representative parliament and all aspects of medieval history.

The winner will be decided by public vote and BCMH members could help the Annual Evesham Battlefield Festival project by voting for Mick. Further details on how to vote are here.;
