Membership of the BCMH is open to all who are prepared to demonstrate a genuine commitment to the objects of the Commission and a willingness to contribute to conferences, publications and the activities of it.
This is defined further in the Objects of the BCMH as set out in our Constitution:
The objects of the Commission are to promote through research, publication and discussion the understanding of military history in the broadest sense, on land, sea and air, and without restrictions as to historical period.
However, the BCMH is run entirely by a small committee of volunteers and membership is therefore by invitation of the General Committee following nomination by two or more members. In considering whether to accept an application for membership the committee must, apart from the suitability of the applicant, also have regard to the ability of the Commission to sustain the membership administratively.
The Commission publishes its work, with a small number of exceptions, on the website so that it is available to the general public.
If you are interested in playing an active part in the Commission then, before submitting a proposal form you might like to attend one of our events. A list of current events is below.
Please contact the Secretary General at secgen@bcmh.org.uk if you would like to attend one or more of these.
